Postgraduate Students from Lead City University Gain Insight into Media Advocacy During Study Visit
-Adekola Ojerinde
Last week, we hosted postgraduate students from Lead City University for a comprehensive study visit focused on media advocacy. This visit was designed to provide students with practical insights and real-life examples of effective media advocacy campaigns.
Our media team facilitated the session and guided the students through the introduction to detailed case studies on media advocacy. The aim was to demonstrate various successful advocacy initiatives' strategies and outcomes.
Dr. Adekunle Olusola Otunla, a distinguished lecturer from the Department of Mass Communication and Media Technology at Lead City University, led the student group. Dr. Otunla emphasized the importance of this visit as it fulfils part of the requirements for their compulsory course, "Case Studies in Media Advocacy."
During the visit, our team shared in-depth case studies on topics such as the successful remodelling of 297 Primary Health Care centres, the positive environmental changes brought about by our campaign on the Akobo-Olorunda Abba Road project, the comprehensive human trafficking awareness campaign that raised significant awareness and improved reporting mechanisms, and the advocacy efforts that led to the passing of the Community Service Bill in Oyo State in 2016.
The students expressed great satisfaction with the knowledge they gained, noting that the insights they received will be invaluable in their future endeavours. They pledged to apply the lessons learned to their future projects, demonstrating their commitment to using media advocacy effectively.
Dr. Otunla praised the visit, stating, "This experience is crucial for our students as it provides practical knowledge and exposure to real-world advocacy efforts. The insights gained here will significantly enhance their understanding and ability to implement effective media advocacy."
We are proud to have been part of this important educational journey and look forward to seeing how the students will use media advocacy to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
